Explore what’s beneath the ocean surface, beyond the sharks and fish! There exists a whole world of tiny living things (called micro-organisms or microbes) that are so small, scientists need to use a microscope to see them. Microbes are essential to life on Earth. They form the base of the marine food web, produce half the oxygen in our atmosphere, help fight global climate change and eat our garbage. We couldn’t live without microbes!
